Common Satellite TV vs Cable TV Problems

Before I find a special deal on a Dish Network's package, I must be absolutely clear about what I am getting. No one should purchase a TV service with questions unanswered.

Some of the questions I had was regarding the weather. Just a few days ago, my city, Fairfax City, marked a historic record snow fall. It was cloudy for two days straight. I was wondering if the think cloud blocks signals from the satellite.

I've searched the web to see what people think about this issue and found some interesting stuff.

The signal drops during really heavy downpours, but hasn't been a problem with normal rain. The cable companies want you to believe it's more of a problem than it is, but any time it goes out, it's an aggravation.

The satellite was so sensitive that we would lose our signal when it was raining hard, snowy, windy, and even foggy.

We occasionally lose our signal with DishNetwork if there is very heavy rain between our dish and the satellite. It has to be really heavy rain, however, and the more accurately your dish is aimed, the more dependable the service.

I have DirecTV (in the Raleigh, NC area), and it almost never goes out with bad weather. But, it has gone out, or gotten static-y for brief periods, so it's not flawless. In my experience with cable (in California), when cable goes out, it's out for awhile (like a while weekend), but less often. Satellite, when it does go out, is not out for long.

I've read over 50 comments like these on the web. One thing all agree is that bad weather DO affect signals on satellite TV, but briefly. I haven't seen a post that a person had experienced a long-lasting interruption. I remember when I was a Comcast customer, the cable went down so many times. Sometimes it was down for two days with my internet service.

Anyway, that was my biggest question and I'm satisfied with the answer I found on the web.

There is just one thing I need to do now. I need to find the best deal on a Dish Network's plan. I can signup on their main website for a great price, but I've seen better deals on both web and the flyers I've received on the mail. So there got to be a sweeter deal somewhere. Take a look at what I've found on the next page.
